Biting
Okay I understand that little puppies love to bite things, it’s like teething for babies. Unfortuately puppies also have very sharp teeth.
Bandit is so small that he would always go for the toes and ankle ( whatever was at his level at the time). Fingers when you picked him up. We would constantly give him his toys when ever he would bite or try to bit us but that didn’t seem to help at all.
So back to the internet to see what information was out there. After sifting though alot of info I came upon a site that had a video of two puppies at play. It was showing them being ruff and tumble, and of course biting. But when one of them bit too hard, the other one yelped and ran off. The other puppy sat there looking a little sad because his playmate wasn’t around anymore.
The author’s suggestion is that we do the same thing. When a puppy bites we say”Ouch” real loud (which was easy)then leave. Come back a little later and give them a toy to chew on and praise them.
We started doing this about two weeks ago and I can tell you it working. It’s not an immediate fix. But this past week I only had to yelp twice. He has definitely stopped going for the feet though, which I feel is a huge improvement. He still gets a little wild when we are playing with him but I’m confident that biting fingers will soon be a thing of the past.
