I can’t believe he’s 3 months old already.

November 14, 2007

Time has been flying by and Bandit is doing so well.  I guess the main thing is the ever vigilant litter training.  He has never had a pee accident.  The poopy accidents are getting less and less.  I still think it’s up to us to watch him though.  He’s still a puppy and I figure it’ll take at least 6 months to fully train him where I’ll feel comfortable letting him have the run of the house.

I really wish I had time to post some pictures of him.  He’s simply adorable and so good.  He’s gotten used to the lovely zebra striped bag I carry him in.  Now when we go somewhere I just set the bag on the floor and he just jumps in!  I don’t believe he likes it all that much he just wants the treats he knows he gets when he’s good in there.  I’ve taken him into alot of stores and he doesn’t try to stick his head out or bark.  He just quietly takes a nap.

This weekend will be another test for him.  We are taking him with us out of town.  My DD has a concert in Duluth and we decided to stay at a hotel up there.  Luckily the place has pet rooms.  So it really shouldn’t be all that bad.  I decided I’m just going to empty the litter box and bring a small bag of litter with us.  Then when we get there I’ll set it up in the bathroom, show him where it is and just watch him like a hawk until he figures it out.  Hopefully it won’t take him to long.  I’m excited and scared. Wondering how well these pet rooms are cleaned.  Is Bandit going to go nuts because he smells someone else?  What about fleas?  I guess I jut need to settle down and go with the flow.

Hello. I think I got a Zuchon from the same place as you. I have a female zuchon. Did you get your dog from Portland, ND? I am also trying to litter train but I am using wood pellots and she does good all day in her play area but when we are home and she is running around the house and if I’m busy and not watching close she thinks it’s easier to pee on my living room carpet instead of going a couple more feet into her litter box. My dog was born Aug 31 but not to Daisy’s litter. She is a lot of fun too but I will enjoy her a lot more if we can get this potty training down. The vet told me to get rid of the litter box cause I am confusing her cause I still take her outside when I am home.

OMG! Yes I got him from Portland ND! Must be the same place since Portland is oh so small. Bandit was born August 11th! As for the litter training thing. I think it’s going pretty good. I do watch him like a hawk though and of course praise with treats helps alot. He’ll do anything for his treats. I say don’t give up! When Bandit goes for a walk he knows it’s okay to go outside also. I tell him he’s a good boy but no treats. This way he feels it’s okay to go outside but he’d rather have food so he uses the litter box inside. Be patient they say it may take up to 6 months to fully potty train a dog.

We’d love to see pictures of the bag you take him in. Are you planning on using the same bag when he is fully grown?

What do you do about litter training if you take him over to a friends house? Does he go outside just as well?

    Hi Jeff,

The picture of the purse is a few entries back. He should be able to use it when he’s full grown the breeder estimated between 7-9 lbs at maturity. Right now I can have him in it with his leash, clothes, and toys. So maybe when he’s older I’ll have to find another place for them. As for going to friends, we really haven’t had him inside. Most of our visiting has been with our neighbors on the front lawns. I think it would depend on how long we were staying. If it was for a few days I would definitely bring the litter box. If it was just for a few hours I would make sure he went outside first, then we’d go in and visit. I have brought him to my DD volleyball games and my DS basketball practice. Bandit just sits quitely in my lap or in the bag. Sometimes at the practices when there are other little kids there I let them pet him and he’s content to stay between us on the blechers or floor. I don’t let them hold him though. He still under 4 lbs. and I worry they might be a little rough. I guess taking him inside to a friends will be the next challenge. I’ll let you know.
